Changing things up

The serenity prayer goes something like...accept the things you can not change, change the things you can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Well it's not very fun to accept the things I can not change, however we are having fun to change the things we can.

After 13 years, I am a little disappointed that we aren't still blue...(just incase you didn't know, blue is my favorite color)

However, I think I'll be able to adjust to going green.

I think we're going to like the change!

Winter Camp -

Friday after school, the scouts met at our home to prepare for their "grand adventure". There was a range of emotions, from anticipation to worry.

When Bryce went up to the camp spot a couple of weeks earlier, he just had his water pack on, and he didn't think it was too bad at all. The boys & leaders got their snow shoes, their gear, and started up a STEEP hill, looking for their camp spot. That 1st part of the hike was brutal with a heavy pack on and pulling the rest of the gear! It wouldn't have been so bad to pull the sleighs, if all 4 of the leaders could have helped out. 2 of the leaders needed to go and figure out the problem of where to park the vehicles, while the other 2 leaders pulled the sleighs. Either way the parking or the pulling--was an issue.

Daylight was rapidly departing, so the boys had to hurry and dig their snow caves. That too was tons of work.

The boys were working on their backpacking merit badge,as well as the orienteering merit badge.

After a very dark and cold night, a cold, hard ground, not getting much sleep, and being mentally and physically exhausted, they were ready to leave camp! When they were leaving camp...the boys were trying to break the snow caves and Jacob finally fell through.

THEY SURVIVED!!!!!Although in Tyler's words "IT WAS HORRIBLE!!! (I think I would agree. I'm REAL thankful I cant go to scout camps! Thats a huge blessing for me!)I'm sure every scout and leader was thrilled to be to be back in their own beds Saturday night.

Bad news/Good news

The Bad news is Bryce just became our Scout Master - (its been lot of work so far).

The Good news is- Bryce just became our Scout Master.(good for Tyler to get his Eagle, and Bryce is really excited about this calling!)

The bad news is - there goes our family vacations this summer.
The Good news is- while Bryce and Tyler are on scout camps--Brenda doesn't have to be! The bad news is - she gets to be on "Biscuit duty".

The Bad news is -(in Tyler's perspective) now Tyler is constantly hearing about scout stuff.
The Good news is- Bryce is really excited about helping these boys!! He's got several things planned...merit badges & camps every month, and he is just a big kid himself. He'll do awesome in this calling!

The Bad news is- their 1st winter camp is coming up in a couple of weeks (brrrr). The Good news is- Bryce is looking forward to sleeping in a snow cave again...(its been a long time since he's slept in one.)
The Bad news is - maybe it's been TOO long and he doesn't remember what it was REALLY like.
